Softly As A Morning Sunrise
‘Softly As A Morning Sunrise’ is a monthly two hour morning broadcast on Balamii Radio. Guests are invited to present their unique grooves from across the world in a meditative and laid back mix. The show is free from stylistic boundaries and instead focus’ on the energies presented by each month’s selector.
Hamish OOX
Over the last six months, I’ve had the privilege of hosting an incredible array of selectors broadcasting morning energies to your home. This month’s broadcast is dedicated to those final moments in the club, when the lights flood our eyes and we hear the final melodies. To help me I’ve invited one of the best diggers in London town, Mr Hamish Oliphant who runs the incredible OOX music. He’s the perfect man to help me close this beautiful show for the final time.
Norsicaa (Soundway Records)
Norsicaa is a digging extraordinaire, perfectly captured in the incredible back catalogue of Soundway Records which she heads up. Her Boiler Room appearance last year was a mesmerizing blend of incredible grooves, percussive club movements and a dizzying array of stylistic ventures. Truly one of the most independent and original selectors in London, she’s prepared an eclectic mix of soulful laiden sounds to guide you through your Saturday morning.
Scarlett O’Malley (The Soul Exchange)
Scarlett is a power house of soul records and one of the most reputable names on the London soul circuit. But her reputation extends beyond northern soul groovers, having represented on lineups with Secretsundaze and Hot Chip, all whilst maintaining her infectious energy and rhythm behind the decks. A loveable lady with a big heart for melodies, she’s put together a gorgeous mix to get you swooning.
Donna Leake
This month’s Softly As A Morning Sunrise features guest selector and vibes guru Donna Leake. Donna has built her reputation through her defined musical taste focusing her energies on selecting deeply rich music without compromising quality. A truly international DJ, she was gracious enough to record an hour long mix featuring an eclectic mix of energies that perfectly encapsulate her passion and skill as a selector.
Nabihah Iqbal (Ninja Tune)
Nabihah Iqbal’s versatility knows no bounds. An ethnomusicologist with one of the most reputable radio shows currently broadcasting on NTS, her debut album ‘Weighing of The Heart’ displays her maturity as a live performer and songwriter contrary to her phenomenal club DJ career. For this mix, Nabihah has put together a selection of original meditations from her current studio sessions, all of which is unreleased and unheard previously. Her melancholic instrumentation and sense of space within each composition is a tribute to her introspective and explorative style; a perfect energy for your morning routine.
Dom Servini (Wah Wah 45s)
Very very excited to announce my new show on Balamii Radio 'Softly As A Morning Sunrise'. Each month I'll be inviting a guest to contribute a vibing Saturday morning mix, allowing selectors to present their unique grooves from across the world in a meditative and laid back mix. First up, the wonderful Dom Servini from Wah Wah 45s. Big love for what he's put together for the show and all is work with Wah Wah.
